Hike Theory

Museums can encourage new forms of governance and participation, support transdisciplinary research, and can provoke systemic change across society, but there are limits on who is able to access this curatorial matrix and what concepts are allowed into view. At the same time, climate change poses significant challenges to the way museums operate. Practices of collecting, conservation, exhibition making and community engagement may all need to be rethought in times of rapid social and environmental change. How will museums adapt to the impacts of climate change? How will they function and who will they serve? We are interested in the museum as an environment of open exchange.

Hike Theory is a proposal for re-imagining how museum design and activity might support climate action.
